“BEATING EXPECTATIONS”

With new technology ,the need to communicate face-to-face or via telephone is on the decline ,emails and facebook are an early option.

Technology i affecting public speaking ,people are becoming less confident  and even afraid of speaking in public as they are used to technology doing the talking to them .

Computer programmes such as powerpoint are used for presentations and lectures ,however some think that this is not the best way to grab attention.Using Power point dosent always engage an audience ,you need skills to entice ,them making them want listen .

Though we would imagine that in the fast growing technological world there is a need for the use of “new technology ” ,it definately has its drawbacks…

A very interesting article in the PR Week about the merger tussle between microsoft and yahoo.They had a new entrant this week with Rupert Murdoch apparently mulling over a ‘white knight’ that would see Newscrop’s my space merged with yahoo for a 20 per cent ownership.

A number of yahoo’s shareholders are keen to take the microsoft dollar,albeit at a higher offer.But founder Jerry Yang who returned to head the  troubled company eight months ago,is loath to hand his baby to Bill Gates Microsoft.The bid offers Microsoft a last chance to challenge google’s current dominance of internet advertising reventure but its own shareholders are farn from convinced on the grounds that ‘taking on yahoo would be a big distraction to Microsoft.

The manoeouvring between the internet giants could herald a “potentially decisive phase of consolidation for the dot com industry’ ……

The pace at which the ‘dot com’`industry is growing is amazing .The mind works faster than technology ??? but with all the different mergers taking place ,it is important to keep up with the social network to be able to stay updated and follow the war for being number one!

The non -profit-sector is underestimating the importance of social media ,according to a survey of marcoms professionals .The report by spectrum Consulting said voluntary sector organisations found social media less influential than PR agencies and public sector organisations did .

 ”Given the effectiveness of blogs and online news for reaching target audiences and the low cost of using and monitering them,it is believed that the non-profit-sector risks missing a major trick by failing to recognise the benefits of social media .

This is an article i read in the PR week and it caught my attention to see the different perspective that people have about Social media .It definately is one of the most important forms of Media ….

i found an article which i wanted to share with everyone as the choice of words is something i found interesting .The way peoples outlook is changing in a positive manner about public relations and how it is been incorprated at every corporate office,private agencies as well as free lancing .

“In a fast paced and dynamic buisness enviroment,communication officers are increasingly seen as a buisness partner for the CEO and leadership team in the stewardship of a companys reputation, said George Jamison,corporate communicaton practice leader at Spencer Stuart.

 CCOs are expected to create value and mitigate risks for the corporation by developing innovative strategies to proactively communicate with  a companys stakeholder.”

There is definately a better understanding of the need of a corporate comunications team and the impotance as well.It is indeed good to see peole acknowledging that at all levels……

Last evening i attended a very enlightening seminar by a very dynamic and high profile figure in the buisness community called Mr.David Parkin .His interesting sense of humor in the middle of the lecture kept each person glued to their chairs and gave us an insight about the rise of public relations and how due to the new media,print seems to be taking a back seat !! Surprisingly,when he asked how many out of a strength of about 25 of us present in the room got our news by reading the paper,only one or two persons actully read the newspaper everyday !!! amazing but true .Ofcourse,one of my very intellectual  professor asked about an aspect of public relations and new media which all of us are trying to become savy at these days  ,The term is “blogging”.I actully felt a sense of pride to be a part of the “bloggers” .

A classmate of mine questioned him about the fate of print media .He said that since it has existed for almost 254 years ,it would be wrong to say that it will die completely .However,the buisness has contracted due to the emergence of new media where one can be connected and informed about the events all around the globe by just pressing a button !! Heloo Everyone ,

I feel a great sense of achievement while writing this post as i have been attempting to do one for the past one week !!! It wasnt lack of enthusiasm!!Unfortunately i became the victim of the common “Technical Difficulties ” on my Machine. I am sure it sounds very “cliche” …However,like our professor says ,we live in the real world  where things sometimes do go wrong and are beyond our controll and i  personally believe that if there is a problem there is definately a solution.So here i am with a sigh of relief and a smile on my face to put a few of my thoughts down.

Just like most of us my use of the internet has so far been restricted to searching,emailing and utilising the other web sites to learn and also be in touch with those who live in a different zip code as it becomes difficult to send everyone a detailed email due to time constraint ..A week back while the class settled in and waited for our lecturer to give us an insight on our subject,he told all  about this very interesting way to actully own our own web space !!! Wow and the added advantage being that it was absolutely free of cost !!! I am sure we all have a pound or two to spare but anything that we dont have to pay for automatically brings a smile to our face and tends to rise our enthusiasm a lil more …

According to me blogging is a great opportunity  to connect with people with common interests as ourselves with a similar vision,academically and otherwise .It also enables them to get to know us .I am looking forward to this venture as i am a fairly inquisitive person by nature with a desire to learn and explore new opportunities and different avenues in life which is one of the  many reason i decided to pursure my masters degree at the Leeds Metrololitan University and move from India,the country to which i originally belong.

I do hope to share this experience and make friends and acquaintances as experiences in life always help us to put things in perspective and grow by learnin from them…
